03 Welcome to business purpose and clarity with petri I'm your host we talk about startup life insights practical tips mistakes failures and everything between on a row what's the sequence maybe it's weekly so in three weeks the same topic over and over again do you have a problem are you solving it what have you done are you expecting it to get better in the near future that's one of the rule of the thumbs I have in three weeks each week we coming back to the same topic it seems to be that we have a problem well maybe it's just the one thing that.
07 We are improving and solving the problem but it just takes time but many times that's not the thing the real issue is that we haven't solved the problem or we actually know how to solve the problem but we haven't made that decision for one reason or another there are people involved surprised and we talking about most of the time we consuming most of the about that one particular person or about that one particular problem and if it's consuming most of the resources and energy many times almost always looking back.
17 The decision earlier because things didn't get better the problem didn't get solved it escalated or it irritated or it just kept on lingering and being unsolved and finally it became so and unavoidable so critical that the decision we knew all along was there and was available needed to be made but because it was not an easy thing to solve probably painful doing nothing a bit hiding that maybe it goes away if we are not focusing and tackling it head along.
23 Straight away these are especially hard when we're talking about people who are not people you just hired and you realize that they may not be a good fit for the company or people who have some other issues which are affecting the company the performance the team the oftentimes it means that you have to let go of those people which is never fun it's always some kind of tragedy it's a loss in many ways it's a loss also in a sense that now you have to start looking for somebody else and that's a painful process as well in addition to the fact that you don't have anybody carrying out the tasks which that person was supposed to do so no wonder it takes time hesitation and often too long.
29 To make the hard decisions and that's like ben horowitz says in his title of his book hard things are hard things and if you haven't read the book I warmly recommend you to do it it became almost like an instant classic when it came out some years ago already you should keep in mind and keep on counting if it doesn't happen on the road maybe you're off the hook who knows let me know.
