03 Welcome to business purpose and clarity with petri I'm your host we talk about startup life insights practical tips mistakes failures and everything between among all the craziness of building your startup life will face ups and downs it's just a matter of the frequency is it weekly monthly daily hourly my experience is that it tends to happen quite often so when you feel like things are going your celebrate and enjoy most likely almost within the day or within the next few hours the things can go upside down again that's just the way it is when you're building things it's not.
07 If it's when and if you start to take this as a normal business as usual type of approach to building your business you also need to take some kind of mental measures things which help you to keep you going but also keep you sane and the people around you saying as well because it's a roller coaster ride and that ride is sometimes rather wild and it's not always so fun I have a few suggestions and pick what you like some of the work may work may work for you some others don't feel like your thing here are a few things which I have picked along the way and seen some people using.
13 For example you could have some other side projects just something else to do it doesn't need to be big it doesn't need to be something which is becoming a profitable business or anything it could be sports some are actually running marathons and training rather hard and that's a good balance of doing something else usually when you're physically training that also liberates your mind to do other stuff oftentimes it doesn't really matter what you do as long as you're doing something distracts or takes your mind away from your current troubles and and you can a bit of rest if you will I don't recommend uh going to drinking alcohol or doing things like that which uh not really solving those issues what do you have there you're just basically avoiding and.
15 Suppressing things and and it tends to make you also becoming in time debt well hangover takes time if you're not feeling good usually if you start to skip the exercise eat badly sleep poorly and add a bit of alcohol those things will start to show up in your performance and we are not talking about sprints here we're talking about marathon or even multiple marathons you have to think the long term as well side projects can be something else as talks with battery episode pierre stanislaus mentioned that he's been doing with his over 40 projects and he just mentioned that it's for his mental sanity mental hygiene and it.
19 Brings a bit of dynamic variance to the things you're something to expect something fun something which is not performance driven einstein used to play violin when he was stuck with some of the physics problems he was just playing violin and oftentimes doing things like can unlock the which you do not seem to get away do which are more like habits or behavioral patterns for example you know that you are maybe performing better in the morning so maybe you do the hard stuff first start with all the boring things all the things you absolutely need to do do those things first prioritize the most important things first and and then keep on doing till you drop or something.
24 Else comes maybe when you start to become more you could go and exercise a bit and have a lunch afterwards and and then you're gonna have meetings and socialize with other people in the afternoon for example that's one way to have a routine where you pick the best and the peaks in in different times and and you could do the same with the the weekdays as well if you know for example that you want to take it a bit more easier on fridays well don't take any meetings maybe it's the time to reflect think just do more slow paced things which take more time and and you're gonna do it while it's hectic or you do a bit more reading or studying or innovation or some creative things if you work in the weekends as well maybe that's the sunday when nobody.
26 Bothers you but nevertheless whatever works for you try to utilize these different slots or dedicated times to do something also if you feel a bit down because whatever things are not going as fast as you wish they would or otherwise it seems to be uphill battle all along you could try to think about again what other things I could do even though I don't feel inspired but still would progress things maybe you need a bit of holiday as well don't forget that it's good to not work all the time it's not about the hours you put in it's about the and if you do full-time wrong things are those the good results you after don't forget to do some fun stuff as discovering new things learning new.
30 Things being on outside of your comfort zone is also a thrill whenever you do something exceptional to you new it tends to bring new ideas it tends to bring more something to your work which you didn't see before and all those things are good things there's no right or wrong way of doing things but don't forget to live because life is not just about working it's not about the results with entrepreneurs it tends to be that when you reach the platter when you reach some of your goals it doesn't feel that good anymore why well because you're already 1000 miles ahead you're already looking for something else but sometimes it's good just to stop for a while.
34 And enjoy and observe how far you have reached so far it's about a journey not the final destination.
