The new business season has started. I have been [Hopin](https://hopin.to/) to many short matchmaking meetings already ([Uppstart](https://hopin.to/events/uppstart) being the latest). IRL events feel so last season already (too soon?)

#### New Youtube-channel

This is the official opening post of my [Youtube-channel](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMCLVjfPaag_FmMZ1B6YS9A). It starts modestly with little content but I have big plans! If you want to show a little love to the channel check it out and click the [subscribe](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMCLVjfPaag_FmMZ1B6YS9A?sub_confirmation=1) button. It will help me to unlock certain Youtube-features that are tied to the subscription numbers.

#### Talks with Petri -podcasting frequency

The release frequency is now biweekly. I have released over [20 episodes](/talkswithpetri/) since starting a few months back. Thank you for listening and sending me [feedback](https://forms.gle/sxf6Rhnw7PtiF3Q39) as well as sharing the episodes with others. The show is getting more listeners every week and I'm so happy to see that you find the content valuable.

#### Send me your feedback and questions

Keep me in the loop and [send me feedback](https://forms.gle/sxf6Rhnw7PtiF3Q39) (even anonymously). You can ask business questions that you would like me to cover either in a blog post, video or in some other format. These can be comments, your thoughts, pressing questions or tips.

(Here's a practise question I would like to hear your thoughts: video/audio transcripts - are they useful? I have been publishing them for every podcast episode. I even have them for the below video (only as captions for now). Would you find video transcript as a blog post useful and if so, how much would you pay to get that feature?)

### Business disruption in 2020 (do you still have a business model?)

[Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrtMrylXQWM)

Early 2020 kick-started business disruption. If you were not digital-first business already do you still have a business model?

I will talk about the digital disruption and adapting to change in this decade. Many of the consequences take longer to become evident but you should be aware of them now, and act immediately.

## Transcript (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrtMrylXQWM, YouTube's automatic captions)

[0:02] You still in business this is what we're going to talk about in this video but before going there imagine a situation where you're just a newly minted ceo pretty much the first thing you need to do is lay off two thirds of your people and you realize that you don't have any business left more or less 95 of your revenues are gone what what do you do you still have a bit of assets you still have a bit of time but the are not working the way they used to do I'm gonna tell you more about this case it's a real case what the ceo did but before that let's focus on your business let's focus on what are we doing now pretty much everyone is coping if you have a business do you still have a business model for a lot of people a lot of companies 2020 actually killed the business the business model the revenue model the.

[1:09] Way it was carried out the way it was done but for many like the saying goes uh first gradually it may not have materialized completely yet you may have a bit of feeling in your stomach that you know it's not really working it's not getting back but this is you know you're still getting money you still have customers still other things are still going but and this is the big part this is something I've been thinking a this year this is something I've been really focused on with the companies I've been working and this is something I think what you should do as well because customers they are not stopping they are adapting everybody is a consumer so we are all adapting to this new reality we've been staying more at home we've been doing things differently we've been skipping things we've been replacing things probably our values.

[2:16] Changed a bit also the way we think about some things what is called what is trendy all these things have changed and because this has been going on quite a bit of the year already it means that we are not going back so we are really starting to replace the old with the new vi in a new world imagine if you just landed on the moon you're just figuring out the lay of the land the gravity how all things are working in this and obviously it's not earth you cannot go back the last saddle just um the only way is forward you just hide uh you just need to go with the reality and it's this big of a change what's happening now and it's uncomfortable it's not fun.

[3:21] But is what it is so it's just better to start to look wake up explore be playful pray as well would act now with the fresh eyes maybe you borrow else's insights if you know someone um who is not invested in your business so you can ask you know that you know could you just take a look and you know tell me brutally honestly what I'm doing is really working you could also talk to your customers some of them prospective or the new or old and and really have an honest discussion with them and say that hey what I'm doing is it really working for you do you still love it you know why you why are you using us all these things because in the beginning I was saying that 95 of.

[4:29] The revenues are gone but it's happening and in some cases it can be just only one thing which has changed well there's a lot of things going on in in you know this year and this decade but you know just let's take one the physical aspect if you're not providing things synchronously meaning at the same time with the same place with the same people interacting having some kind of experience doing something together and you just start to do that digitally that may actually need that things have changed and they are not working anymore you may not have a business model and I stopped and I suggest you do the stop and question everything it's worth my time and I thought.

[5:39] Is it providing value to the people at this point and in the future if you think about it in five ten years is it still the way to go so let's not fool ourselves let's not others let's see how things really are there's no right or wrong we're all here together figuring this out there's a lot of trials and errors everybody's trying to swim the best they and some will succeed because they'll find something which works in this kind of new world so this is my message basically there's no turning back no point waiting it's new it's uncomfortable get over it.

[6:44] You can do it do you still remember the guy I was talking about in the beginning it's an actual real case um the ceo is called mika hutton and the organization is called slash dot org they are one of the biggest business conference organizers in the staff build globally and they've been doing that from really humble beginnings the last decade and now it's one of the biggest events really in the world and this was the situation earlier this year they changed their ceo every year microsoft started and and they were planning the event already the first part of the month for 12th year for a few weeks at least and and then corona happened 95 percent of the business is gone they didn't really feel like uh doing a digital event.

[7:47] They decided to cancel the whole event this year they didn't want to do it because too much so what did they do difficult questions they asked ask the questions about why do we exist what we do to who we doing it and are there any other ways we could do the things we're doing now instead of a two-day event once a year could we help startups and investors and other stakeholders continuously 365 days a year year-round with a new way and this is basically what they did they started to pivot and launched a new product just after four months from starting from and now it's alive and if you want to know more just happened.

[8:54] To have a podcast episode you can check it out like all my talkswithpetri.com and I hope to see you next time.
